We were surfing online, selecting important content to share with our readers, when suddenly something just caught our attention. The german magazine Spiegel,  in its international online section, cured important content about sustainable fashion. The journalist Philipp Seibt frames several aspects of sustainability, and details about shoes are among them, and they include a Portuguese company,…

This is a utterly no filter picture which pictures Moda Lisboa for next fall/winter season.  No glamorous front rows, street fashion ubiquity and the same old boys and girls. (more…)

It’s been a while since we first sneak around Miguel Vieira backstage during fashion weeks. We almost developed a symbiotic affair with his style team. Between backstage mess,  shooting the shoes is almost organic and visceral. Only a little sample of his collection becomes part of the show. Two colours painted this season show: the usual black and burgundy. Transversal to all pairs the same pointed golden needle heel. A winner to the posh kind of girls.

Miguel is well known for his shoes. There’s no headline regarding this subject. In the last four seasons we thought it was ok, but not bold. There´s a sparkle in our eyes as we think this season is a Miguel Vieira come back! The high heeled pumps, knee boots and short boots are to die for. Very feminine, posh and chic. The quilted work gives it that special touch. They merge comfort and style together, as they include a hidden corky base to support the foot. We could see how stable the shoes are, looking how models stepped the runway. They got that wow factor needed to start some gossip job! Two thumps up.

Outstanding, comfortable, avant-garde and cool! Those are the words to describe Luis Buchinho shoe collection for next fall. Some “mocassins” in colour variations (beije, ocean blue, white and black), ankle ( a little bit up) boots and knee gladiators. The gladiators re-invented are the main stars. Masculine with a feminine and posh shape, they fit the legs perfectly, almost like a leg tailoring.

Masculine with a feminine and posh shape, they fit the legs perfectly

For the second season in a row, Buchinho had the collaboration of Carité, a experienced manufacturer. They are so easy to speak to… Everything is much easier than the previous collaboration. I’m not saying the previous collaboration had no quality. They were great. Somehow they tended to complicate simple things. Luis opened to us his decisions in a very honest way.
Criticisms and evaluation improve quality, cannot be reduced to negative issues.

Footwear manufacturers need fashion designers out of the box creativity

Speaking about those kind of details are runway to perfection, to quality, to cause impact near the fans and potencial clients. Relations, communication and collaboration must prevail above all things. Footwear manufacturers need fashion designers out of the box creativity to provide visibility. Fashion designers need manufacturing know-how to assure quality and reliability of their creations. Design and manufacturer are a very important dialectic relationship.

The raw pictures we took backstage illustrate how they (the shoes) can speak for themselves, with no style, no make up, no clothes involved. A fashion designer extended his signature from torso to feet.
Buchinho managed to make it work. For those women who need comfort in the same measure they need to be (and feel) chic in a daily routine. What a great way to celebrate twenty year’s anniversary. Happy birthday!

Winning co x lab : celebrating Buchinho’s twenty years Outstanding, comfortable, avant-garde and cool! Those are the words to describe Luis Buchinho shoe collection for next fall.

Moda Lisboa starts today, and we take a glance to the brands we are going to step up the runway supporting new talents. Experienced brands and manufacturers have been doing it and some interesting mash ups emerged, joining experience and out-of-the-box creativity. Eureka X Guava, Kolovrat X Eureka, Buchinho X Helsar, Xperimental Shoes and SAYMYNAME, Alexandra Moura + Goldmud, Aleksandar Protik X Dkode,Nuno Gama and Eureka, Luis  Cravalho e Joana D’Graça are some examples. We do like to see Portuguese talents on the runway thus expecting more of it doesn’t seam odd at all.

Today we spotted some premieres like Banda x Nelson Oliveira, Duarte X Ten Toes, Patricia da Costa x Felmini. On our way  to catch up with them backtsage and cover it live. Curious? So wellcome to Moda Lisboa Curiouser.

CR7…THOSE SHOES ARE MADE FOR DANCING!

CR7  is a brand behind the Portuguese Player Cristiano Ronaldo. The world’s best player is powerful and profitable brand. Clap my hands to that, not only because I’m Portuguese, but also because his competence for doing things is spotless. Hard-worker, resilient, professional and a product of different cultures.

He now gives name to…

Box office successes, Comic Cons, remakes… The beginning of the 21th century is all about the Marvel characters, DB, heroes and so on. A fantastic universe brought to life again in several remakes, from Superman, to Batman, Catwoman, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spiderman…Name it all, they were remake or got a sequel. At a first glance it seems more a geeks issue, than a fashion issue, but it’s so not true.

Fashion gets motos everywhere. The creative work, nowadays very normative and constricted to a few trendsetters, can find fresh and geeky inspiration even in cartoons, and born glamorous and classy. Luis Buchinho presented in Paris is FW15 collection, very close to his usual approach. However we framed the gladiator shoes, more masculine than the gladiator sandals we pictured before. Portugal has a huge amount of manufacturers, and  it’s public that Buchinho changed his previous collaboration last season. We need to see the gladiator shoes live and backstage to evaluate details. Meanwhile, the visual appearance looks great. Who remember Shera, He-Man sister?  Close your eyes and Luis Buchinho POW…She appears tyled and wearing a full Buchinho look.

Has everyone noticed recently, how the fashion industry has been highlighting men fashion? We did. It sells! A lot, actually. Men became, more than women, the industry target. Gay or straight, it doesn’t matter at all. Gender is now androgenic for fashion designers, combining accessories and fabrics, being both bold and traditional. Tailoring is not the only move  to perfection. Gentlemen, suit is important, but it’s not enough. How about the shoes? Shoes have been a symbol of status ever since. A symbol of classiness, money and influence.

Men shoes can bee the most traditional and eclectic piece, even for girls! Pay attention to the runways, were we can see more and more girls using oxfords and slippers, so masculine and strong. The manufacturers embrace the new times, reinventing the tradition and remaining faithful to themselves. Carlos Santos is a stablished Portuguese luxury brand who does that. Combines old techniques and materials with innovative ways, specially concerning materials and leather. Forms and inner materials get new approaches as we can see in the Verbier Boot. The brand can mention the Swiss Alps as a moto, but we prefer to see shapes, colours and sceneries.  Red carpets, Hampton’s shores, Florence streets, City cafeterias, private jets. Meanwhile caught by a 80’s guilty pleasure song we remember the words, a pair of those could sing loud and clear:

“Boys, boys, boys
I’m looking for a good time
Boys, boys, boys
Get ready for my love”

We do believe that fashion should be democratic and affordable. We also shout out loud how important to support Portuguese economy is, buying our wonderful and world wide known footwear.

Sometimes there are stereotypes and prejudices about certain brand or shop, so let’s brake that barriers down and build a more inclusive fashion world.

Does not Zara lives on imitating designers collections? Have you ever thought living Zara behind? How about H&M and the capsule collections with designers? It’s stills remain as prêt-a-porter…

Seaside  is a Portuguese brand who also is strongly inspired by other brands, who produces worldwide, but has an huge amount of good quality leather shoes and boots for less than 50€. It’s only a matter of sneaking around and pay attention to the Portuguese flag on the boxes. So, whether if your Portuguese or tourist, go for it! It’s OK!

Let’s work on a sustainable world. Let’s build a more inclusive fashion world!
